Fitness & WellnessGyms: Private

Toronto Lawn Tennis Club

Opened in 1876, this midtown bastion of civility feels as though it’s from another era: once you’re past the gate, cellphones and BlackBerrys are strictly verboten. In fact, the only thing that matters at the TLTC is honing your serve and your backhand in house leagues, clinics, tournaments and round robin play. Take your pick from 14 Har-Tru outdoor courts (five of which are bubbled) and four indoor clay courts. Squash is just as important, with three international glass courts and a doubles court. The bright fitness centre includes an exercise studio, plus a room of weight machines, free weights and exercise equipment.

How much:
initiation fee $3,500–$12,000; annual fee approx. $2,600 per couple.
