Fitness & WellnessGyms: Private

Boulevard Club

If the Kennedys had summered in Toronto instead of Hyannis Port, the Boulevard Club may well have been their playground. Genteel and preppy pursuits, such as lawn bowling, badminton, weekly sailing races and croquet, are at the social epicentre of this more than 100-year-old lakeside club, which was originally an association for canoe enthusiasts. Water sports remain a big draw, with instruction in dragon boating, rowing and sailing, as well as two pools: a 23-metre indoor pool and an outdoor recreational pool that’s popular with families. Completely overhauled in 2006, the 10,000-square-foot fitness centre boasts a million-dollar view of Lake Ontario, in addition to new-model cardio and strength equipment. Eleven Har-Tru clay courts (eight bubbled in winter) are among the best in the city.

How much:
membership fee $8,500; annual fee $625–$2,200, plus food and beverage minimum.
