Every Y bustles with energy, but this one, the GTA’s most popular with families, buzzes more than most. The top two floors have two pools (one with a warmer temperature for parents and tots, and the Aquafit for Arthritis class), a running track overlooking a big gym, and a window-laden fitness studio. In the basement, a well-stocked cardio and free-weight area (with flat screen TVs and new elliptical machines as of fall 2007) is flanked by a yoga studio and another hardwood-floored area for private stretching. Aside from a full roster of fitness programming for children, youth and adults (including belly dancing, boxfit, volleyball and basketball), a special focus on youth athletics and leadership caters to the driving demographic of the 11,200 members. Change rooms accommodate men, women and families; for an added fee, the Membership Plus area offers towels and overnight lockers, plus a steam room, whirlpool, single-sex conditioning area and chill-out lounge.
How much:
initiation fee $85–$120, monthly fee $56.
