Fitness Institute, North York

Lining the walls of this high-performance club are framed jerseys and photos of the athletes who have trained here: tennis star Daniel Nestor, 10 women from the two-time Olympic gold medal hockey team, and rhythmic gymnast Alexander Orlando, to name a few. Facilities are top-notch and none of the cardio equipment or 50-plus weight machines are more than five years old. The staggering number of classes held in the two studios includes yoga, kick-boxing, dance, aquafit and Pilates. The changing area boasts steam rooms, whirlpools, towels, razors, bathrobes, private lounges and eucalyptus-inhalation rooms. Racquet sport aficionados will appreciate two squash courts, plus bubbled and non-bubbled outdoor tennis courts. A sports medicine clinic, restaurant and lounge are also on-site.
How much:
no initiation fee, monthly fee $59–$89.
