Though women are welcome—courted even—this is a guy’s gym through and through: from the scent of sweat and rubber to The Edge blaring throughout its the 17,000 square feet. The facility is landscaped with an impressive array of machines to pump you up: treadmills, elliptical machines and fancy Schwinn spinning bikes. This is the gym of choice for visiting World Wrestling Entertainment performers: wrestlers Rick Flare and Batista worked out here on a recent pass through town, and a handful of competitive weightlifters also call this place home. High testosterone levels aside, the atmosphere is low-key, with nary a Lululemon or Running Room logo in sight, and staff is well trained and helpful. The 24/7 hours and location (on the fringes of Pearson) make it popular with local shift workers. Locker rooms are basic, but spacious and clean; a juice bar serves up protein-laced smoothies. Classes on offer include Pilates, yoga and spinning.
How much:
no initiation fee, annual fee $400.
