Sixty per cent of the members of this midtown club are women, and it shows: the atmosphere is serene and machismo-free. A renovation is under way to add a yoga studio (offering both hot and cold yoga), a business centre with computer and Internet access, a juice bar, and a café to the space, which features elliptical machines, recumbent and upright bikes, and Life Fitness treadmills. Members rave about Body Alive, a series of dance-based cardio classes taught by the founder of the Body Alive exercise studio, Al Greene; the studio, a generous space with room for 50, has a springboard floor designed to take the stress off overworked knees. Pleasing change rooms feature ample showers.
How much:
initiation fee varies, monthly fee $96.
