If you can’t think of anything worse than another hour on the treadmill, this dance-focused studio (think Fame without the crazy ’80s wardrobe) is definitely worth a try. The space is small and not much to look at—that is, until the dancing starts. Professional instructors (whose combined résumés include stints with Electric Circus, Hairspray and The Beastie Boys) school a mix of newbies and experienced groovers in belly dancing, Brazilian, hip hop and even breakdancing. Unless otherwise noted, beginners are always welcome: just be prepared to sweat. Also be prepared to shower at home—two single washrooms function as change rooms (good thing your new-found post-dance adrenaline rush means you probably won’t care). No membership or registration fees required.
How much:
$12–$15 per class; workshops $15–$30.
