Possibly the city’s smallest gym, this petite site packs a big punch. “We wanted to provide the stuff you need the most, without the stuff you need the least,” says president Steve Lachelt. This means a sleek design and a full roster of brand new Precors—steppers, elliptical machines, treadmills and bikes—all designed to function with a minimum of noise, and each with its own dedicated flat screen TV. Cardio is complemented by a small, well-chosen selection of free weights, benches and resistance bands. Group fitness classes top out at six participants, and include boxing, kick-boxing, personal training and yoga; personal trainers (one is a former paratrooper in the armed forces) emphasize creative ways to get lithe and lean. An eco focus means most machines have batteries that are user-charged, and toiletries in the small but spotless change rooms have been chosen to reduce planetary impact. Size has further benefits: there are no swipe cards, as staff know all members by name.
How much:
initiation fee $79, monthly fee $43.95.
