Owner and former Canadian champion Wayne Bourque was the first in the city to introduce a Boxercize program, and he still leads many of the classes, pushing his clients through a boxing boot camp of push-ups, sit-ups, shadow boxing, skipping, bag work (on 17 heavy bags), choreographed moves and even running up and down stairs. Good for both muscle building and fat reduction (an intense class will burn 1,000 calories), Bourque’s full-body workouts attract everyone from pro athletes and triple-A hockey players to local body toners. Seventy per cent of Bourque’s clients are women. Clean but not fancy, the small Davisville gym also offers Pilates, cycling and personal training.
How much:
private classes $80, group classes $19, one month unlimited group classes $170, cycling $15.
