When it opened 15 years ago, the gym was aimed at underprivileged youths; now that boxing is all the rage, its clientele is more varied. Members can be seen pummelling punching bags or sparring in the legendary ring (the latter was imported from Times Square; Ali and Marciano once trained in it). Gruelling workouts start with an old-school warm-up before moving on to shadow boxing and bag work. Classes include Thai boxing and yoga; there’s also state-of-the-art cardio and weight training equipment.

initiation fee varies, monthly fee $28–$56.
