The salon itself—all shiny metal and mirrors, and narrow, winding staircases—could use an update. It has, after all, been 40 years since the legendary English master established his Toronto outpost. However, the mega-brand he created remains epicentre of fashionable hair. Cuts (from $70) are technically precise and exacting, taking into account face shape, personal style and complexion. For those with more time than money, a cut by an apprentice at the on-site training centre is just $24, but expect to be in the chair for at least three hours, as senior stylists oversee every snip.
