It’s hard not to be charmed by a man whose business card features a photograph of his mom. And charm is what John Steinberg does best. That and good hair, of course. After almost 50 seen-it-all-done-it-all years as one of the city’s original celebrity hairstylists, the man with the Coronation Street accent and silken pate still shows impish enthusiasm. His salon occupies a coveted corner on a posh stretch of King West. The place is a hive, buzzing on a weekday afternoon with a good-looking, youthful crew that delivers consistently stylish cuts from $40 (a cut with the master is $90). Colour starts at $65; highlights $115–$155.
