Toronto’s oldest black-owned salon, Azan’s has attracted the city’s African queens for the past 47 years. Dreadlock seekers will find expert treatment; weave clients are ushered into a separate room; “weaving is a private thing,” says stylist Leonie Hodge, who has been plaiting and sewing tresses (from $200) for 22 years. In the main room, the regular crowd gets clipped in 20 chairs (wash and set starts at $40, cuts from $60); Kemeel Azan and his well-trained staff offer straightening and colour from $75.
