Toronto’s oldest black-owned salon, Azan’s has attracted the city’s African queens for the past 40 years. Anyone who wants dreadlocks should also come here for expert treatment. Weave clients are ushered into a separate room—“weaving is a private thing,” says stylist Leonie Hodge, who has been plaiting and sewing tresses (starting at $200) for 21 years. In the main room, the regular crowd gets clipped in 20 chairs (wash and set starts $35, cuts from $60) while Kemeel Azan and his well-trained staff straighten hair (from $75). Colour technicians apply shades by L’Oréal, Farouk and Goldwell (from $75).
