There is a steely confidence to owner Arie Assaraf’s latest exercise in aspiration retail. The sensibility is decidedly modern, thanks to designer Johnson Chou’s use of cool indirect lighting, suspended hanging racks, and a sweeping, curvilinear glass storefront whose shape is echoed in the centre shoe salon. And this, no doubt, garners attention, as shoes from Chloé, Marc Jacobs, Giuseppe Zanotti and Marséll are beautiful enough to be considered sculpture. Art is also an appropriate point of reference for the women’s apparel, with Comme des Garçons, Antonio Berardi, Boudicca and Viktor & Rolf among the standouts. For fall, watch for pops of bright electric colour and metallics.
