There is a steely confidence to owner Arie Assaraf’s latest exercise in aspiration retail. The sensibility is decidedly modern, thanks to designer Johnson Chou’s use of cool indirect lighting, suspended hanging racks, and a sweeping, curvilinear glass storefront whose shape is echoed in the centre shoe salon. Aesthetic attention soon transfers to the wearables: shoes from Chloé, Marc Jacobs, Barbara Bui and Marséll are beautiful enough to be considered sculpture. Art is also an appropriate point of reference for the women’s apparel, with Comme des Garçons, Phillip Lim, Helmut Lang and Vivienne Westwood among the standouts. For spring this year, watch for plaid designs, boyfriend jeans and myriad striking bright colours.
