As a counterpoint to fast fashion, this boutique has soldiered on since 1992 (1985 if you count the original Queens Quay location) by offering women’s clothing that lacks a best-before date. Wife and husband duo Nancy Moore and Marsh Birchard carry such hard-to-find and little-known collections as Lilith, Black Label and Cynthia Ashby; separates (all $295–$595) showcase distinctive stitching details or fashion-forward tailoring. Marimekko Ts and dresses make for a lively addition to any wardrobe, while Mycra Pac raincoats epitomize practical outerwear. Motion’s own line of contemporary wash-and-wear knits, including jackets ($295) and pants ($175–$275), draws a faithful clientele. Eye-catching beaded necklaces and scrimshawed bangles salute locally produced craft, while offerings imported from Europe include the popular German line Oska.
