When you enter her second-floor shop, owner Annie Mésenge’s French joie de vivre makes you feel as if you’ve stumbled into a Left Bank treasure trove. It lacks the chi-chi ambience, but that’s quite all right—her well-sourced, stylish separates are what matter most. Jackets from Martine Douvier ($495 and up) are classic with a twist, and a Toronto exclusive. And you’re practically ensured uniqueness with anything from Parisian designers Irene Van Ryb and Bruno Saint-Hilaire, whose collections are feminine and functional (especially the latter’s travelling pants, $300). Versatile sweaters from Carine ($700) are pricey, but are as good as any blazer.
