Fuelling the fire for all things homegrown, hewn and sewn, the newly opened Shopgirls stocks exclusively Canadian-made, mainly Torontonian-designed clothing, accessories and furniture. Set up in a renovated former hardware store, Michelle Germain makes use of her fine Holt Renfrew–honed eye—she used to head their marketing department—to select a smart range of items. Standouts include an electric blue leather purse with a resin closure ($160) from Mirjana Scepanovic, a milky-stoned necklace ($189) by Cindy Dagenais and a birch plywood bubble chair ($950) by Graham McNally. Think of the store as a depot for locavores who want to look the part.
