Hollywood dames and grand RKO musicals are the inspiration for these draped slips and bias cut dresses by designers Lana Lowon and Jim Pope. Silks and satins skim and hug the body just so, creating curves in slim-hipped women and making the voluptuous truly va-va-va-voom. For brides, goddess gowns have replaced princess styles; popular colours include champagne, blue, ecru, silver and golden ivory. Made-to-measure bridal and evening dresses run anywhere from $1,589 to $4,500. You’ll find an off-the-rack selection of party dresses in silk crêpes and chiffons ($289–$1,500), as well as separates ranging from bias-cut skirts to wrap tops ($289–$789). There are also fanciful pieces: one sheer slip dress, dubbed the Honeymoon/Wedding ($389–$1,000), is made from antique scarves. It’s especially popular with beach wedding brides, who wear it to say “I do” while barefoot in the sand.
