It is fitting that Indiva occupies the ornate 12,000-square-foot space originally built as Toronto’s first stand-alone Versace boutique. Except, instead of Italian flair, this new retail concept takes us to India, where a bazaar’s worth of beautiful clothes and home furnishings would make any woman feel like a Bollywood star. Such designers as Rohit Ball, Manish Malhotra and Wendell Rodricks aren’t yet household names on this side of the Atlantic, but that’s part of the magic. Embellished and hand-printed tops, skirts, bustiers and tunics bring new life to your closet, while exquisitely designed couture evening gowns and cocktail dresses ($250 and up) offer South Asian–inspired sparkle. Bold pillows ($39–$149) and beautifully embroidered table runners and throws act as flavourful furniture accents.
