In the fashion world, plus-size means “special interest.” At Commesse it means sensible, gorgeous clothes. Though the ambience is spartan, the collection is well-rounded: these are duds for the club, the living room or the boardroom. Feminine pieces include an eye-catching linen dress in buttery yellow plaid ($144) from Jones New York Sport, and a Point Zero pencil skirt ($79). Most of the clothes, however, come from smaller labels. A taupe trench wrap dress ($179) by California’s Igigi, for example, has three-quarter-length sleeves and buckle detailing. From Vancouver, Togs does edgy silkscreened Ts ($65–$75) featuring such details as faux wraps, ruching and prints.
