Sandra Baksh’s store is giddy with beading, sequins and ruffles, all popular with stressed-out brides, prom queens and sweet 16 parties. To keep prices at a minimum, Baksh attends bridal shows in Canada and the U.S., buys in large amounts, and sells her finds off the rack. For brides, most of the dresses start at $175 for a simpler sheath and move up to $699 for a more elaborate concoction; with over 150 styles, there’s no shortage of choices. Prom dresses range from $195 to $275, and come in about 2,000 styles. Baksh keeps a record of which dresses customers will wear to what school occasion, ensuring that the same dress won’t appear on your arch-rival.
