Inspired by a visit to London’s White Shirt Shop, owner Jay Barrigar conceived a simple, genius premise—700 square feet of little black frockery. The shop’s take on the LBD genre largely consists of cocktail-length numbers ($100–$500) in sizes 2 to 16; stocked labels are a roll call of homegrown and international designers, including Iris, Michael Kors, Penny Black, David Dixon, Teenflo and streetwise Vancouver label Narcissist. Barrigar raves about a newly acquired label, Toronto’s Miranda Lumley, whose Audrey Hepburn–style dresses ($265–$485) are exclusive to the boutique.
