Dream of designer labels but can’t afford the price tags? L’Elegante takes only immaculate items (less than two years old) on consignment and sells them for about one third of the original price. Items range from trendy (a leather Gucci belt for $49.50) to sumptuous (an Armani cashmere coat at $1,400, regularly $5,000-plus; a brown monogrammed Louis Vuitton purse at $299, down from about $900). Glam items include furs and evening gowns from such high-profile designers as Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Prada, Jil Sander, Chanel, Escada, Missoni, Etro and Burberry. Shoppers are also invited to start a customer profile or “want list”: when desired items arrive, staff will put them aside, as long as they are picked up that day.
