Ensconced in the new Hazelton Hotel, this scrupulously curated boutique specializes in statement-making dresses, furs and accessories from a range of runway and Vogue staples. Recognizing that Toronto has plenty of women willing to pay the price of a small car for an exclusive gown (dresses start at $1,500 and head steeply north), creative director Nicholas Mellamphy and his partners drew up a society-heavy guest list for last fall’s opening party. Everything is selected with a specific customer in mind, and Mellamphy is often on the phone with clients clamouring for sought-after items they have seen on Style.com. Lines include J. Mendel, they of the sumptuous furs, perfect little dresses and premiere-ready gowns; Celine, known for its wearable-but-luxurious style; and Giambattista Valli, who specializes in fantastical frocks (his spring collection includes opulent kimono-style mini-dresses). For accessories, watch for upcoming arrivals from Corto Moltedo, designed by a Bottega Veneta scion (and available at only one other shop in North America), and sexy 120-millimetre-heeled shoes from Courtney Crawford.
