A third-generation clothier, David Petrash is betting his grandfather’s good name (Theodore, born in 1922) that the boho book-loving Annex crowd is ready for a luxury menswear store. Open since March 2007, Petrash’s light-filled space (on the former site of the legendary Longhouse bookshop) stocks only the best in men’s fashion: candy-coloured socks in mercerized cotton from Savile Row’s Richard James ($35), raw denim jeans from Italian line Seal Kay ($300), and exquisite Eton cotton shirts from Sweden ($235–$295). Petrash offers ready-to-wear suits from Italy and Germany ($995–$3,000), but suggests his own custom creations ($1,500–$7,000), made with traditional fabrics (super 160s from Loro Piana and other high-end mills) in contemporary designs—short jacket, high armholes, narrow lapel, soft shoulders. There’s also an excellent selection of overcoats ($750–$4,000).
