A notch up from H&M, its fast-fashion contemporary, Zara churns out runway-inspired looks at the same speed, but with a greater emphasis on quality and longevity. The Zara look draws on trends set by such fashion heavyweights as Versace, Prada, Gucci and Chanel. There are racks of suits—with skirts ($35) in the fashionable pencil shape—as well as safari shirts ($45) and cool cotton blazers ($65–$149). An impressive shoe collection touches on big trends: pointed stilettos, peep-toes, glossy patents and lots of metallics. Menswear is a metrosexual’s take on J. Crew, with a range of suits, sweaters and weekend wear.
