As chocolate is to food, cashmere is to fashion: decadent, but somehow necessary. And this Yorkville fixture, stocked with its own line of super-soft men’s and women’s sweaters, is the place to indulge. Founded in 1993 by Alaster Currie, a geologist who spent a lot of time in Mongolia (an important cashmere producer), the shop has been given a new lease on life: it was taken over three years ago by his daughter, Alison. Currie the younger has steered her shop in a more current direction, adding an assortment of trendier styles, including cardi wraps ($299) and must-have black turtlenecks (from $299). Traditionalists, fear not: you can still get the perfect twin-set (top $235–$255, cardigan $355).
