Owner Kerry MacMullin was uninterested in clothing made of animal products by disadvantaged humans, unenthusiastic about synthetic fabrics spun from conventionally grown cotton crops, and tired of buying solely second-hand duds. Hence, Green Is Black, where earrings ($25) used to be soda cans, sneakers used to be trucks—Yellow Port’s recycled kicks ($160–$185) have soles made of tires and uppers made of seat covers—and purses used to be movie posters. Other items include semi-organic cotton goods by Edun and Montreal’s Oom; denim by Loomstate ($250) and Delforte ($185); and beautiful bags ($180) made from old military fabric, with antique buttons by Toronto’s own Jack and Marjorie.
