Up front, mannequins don the new garb for spring 2008. News flash: hot pink and grey accent the iconic black and white. Same goes for simple silhouettes and updated classics. Of course, this description could be applied to almost any Club Monaco collection. The Polo-owned outfit has been reliably bringing practical, neutral-toned elegance to Canadians since 1985. In recent years the class factor has been amped—more cocktail dresses, fewer sweatshirts with the giant C logo of 1990s fame—and such non-clothing items as purses, jewellery and even throw pillows have become commonplace. Prices are reasonable if not cheap, and the back of the store remains one of the best bargain-hunting stops in town. A $49 silk sheath (originally $300) and a $29 cashmere sweater were among recent prize finds.
