Always current but never overly trendy, Banana Republic epitomizes classic business and casualwear. This shop takes the hassle out of getting dressed, eschewing creativity in favour of traditional cuts and colours. From office casuals to wardrobe staples, it’s hard to make a wrong move (on the other hand, it’s also hard to make a standout statement in a BR outfit). For women, tasteful is the keyword: a lightweight wool blazer ($240) for example, with pants ($124) to match. Jewellery and handbags aren’t as subdued as the clothing: an oversized leather tote ($330) is more au courant than conservative. Guys get the standard selection of separates, but clothes horses love the Heritage collection ($40–$600, available at selected stores) for boutique-style touches, such as hand-stitching.
