Based in Paris, this Swiss cobbler–cum–shoe guru has been in business since the 1960s and has fans as far-reaching as Tina Turner, Martha Stewart and Jennifer Tilly. The reason is clear: Walter Steiger creations are classy, comfortable and durable. All of his shoes are handmade in Italy and leather lined. Typical for women is the two-and-a-half-inch round-toed pump in crocodile ($1,695). Stilettos are big—the higher the better—and fans of the look can pick up a pewter pair with a python platform heel for $1,095, or congo-print mid-calf boots with pony-hair finish ($1,295). Men’s shoes range from classic oxfords ($995) to stylish ankle boots made from ostrich ($1,795). In accessories, Steiger’s classic handbag (small $995, large $1,195) is a highlight.
