Don’t expect to see anyone over 25 in this temple to the sneaker. No pretense to utilitarianism here, nor any mention of training, running or basketball. The store is aimed at the skater–hip-hop crowd and it’s all about the look. The various Vans, Pumas, Nikes and Adidas mounted in locked display cases or on glass shelves set off from white brick walls are mini-masterpieces of highly coloured pop art. Gems include the black Nike Air Max with a leopard-print yoke and matching orange interior ($150), and other hard-to-find retro sneakers. Filling out the street cred are Ts from Stussy, and some very rap-alicious jeans and hoodies—such as a red and black number with a diamond and dollar sign design ($400) from Billionaire Boy’s Club, for which this is the only official retailer in Canada.
