Canada’s only all-vegan shoe store operates out of a tiny Kensington Market space. Though it resembles a child’s playroom—complete with a trap door leading to a basement stockroom—silkscreened posters and hand-painted murals exude a whiff of flower power. The shoes look familiar, emulating such classic styles as Doc Martens, Blundstones and Mary Janes. It’s the materials that are different: all products are leather- and sweatshop-free. Made from a breathable mixture of cotton and polyurethane, shoes come in a variety of styles, from Bay Street–ready brogues to pumps. Typical of the store is a John Fluevog desert boot ($125), with an organic hemp body, vegan leather toe and recycled tire sole.
