Four golden angels are on guard outside the store; inside, the imagination only ramps up. Worn by Madonna and the Scissor Sisters, John Fluevog’s designs mix wit, glamour and nostalgia. With a little medieval here and a little Betty Boop there, designs are wacky and flagrantly fun. The open-toed patent leather Hepburn (a three-and-a-half-inch heel in red, blue or black, $235) is a throwback to old-fashioned screen sirens. Others, such as a three-inch brogue with “corset lacing” ($239), are just plain sexy—in a 1930s librarian kind of way. For men, there’s the Capone, a slip-on ankle boot in black or grey patent leather ($299).
