Generations of customers have sat in Singer’s vinyl chairs, tried on a pair of heels and walked out with a fabulous bargain in hand. Timelessness is the store’s appeal. In deference to its suppliers, the store doesn’t like to advertise the brands it sells, but anyone who has passed through the doors knows that it stocks big names. Walk in on any given day and you’ll experience 30 to 60 per cent savings off retail. In February, March and August, the sales are even more radical: up to 80 per cent off, with racks of high-quality shoes going for $10 or $30. Staff are helpful without being obsequious.
