In 1976, the second generation of the Markowitz family (parents Louis and Julia founded Davids in 1951) opened the first Capezio, as a store stocking mostly dance-appropriate shoes and attire. Today, ballet flats may be back, but Capezio has long since branched out to include fun, wearable footwear for all sorts of urban adventures. Brands such as Miss Sixty, Lacoste, Michael by Michael Kors, Steve Madden, Puma and Juicy Couture fall under the “contemporary fashion” category ($69–$250).
