The College Street legend supports predominantly small, cutting-edge designers—there’s no Gucci, Dolce, Dior or Chanel here, thank you very much. Known for its trendy frames and meticulous craftsmanship, Rapp stocks more than 100 brands, mostly small Japanese and European designers—from the classic styles of Oliver Peoples, Alain Mikli, Face à Face and Ic! Berlin (laser-cut steel, $460–$510) to the edgier work of Theo (coloured titanium, $390–$560), Anne et Valentin and Cutler & Gross. The store also sells its own line of plastic-and-titanium shades in historically inspired shapes, manufactured and assembled locally for better quality control. Expect to find a lot of the P3 (an elliptical shape), worn by the likes of Harry S. Truman and Kurt Weill. Glasses run from $260 to $1,200 (for screwless frames handmade by a German woodworker), but most are around the $400 mark.
