MAC A Toronto original, MAC was conceived in 1984 as a cosmetics line for professional makeup artists. Two decades later, the distinctive black disks of Blot Powder ($24) and toonie-size pots of eyeshadow ($16.50) can be found in dressing rooms around the world. The long, slender Queen Street store is full of soft, natural colour options, amplified by splashes of flamboyant body paint, glitter and pigment. Customer favourites include ultra-shiny Lipglass ($16.50) and Studio Finish Concealer ($18), a staple for the overworked and sleepless. There are more than 200 concealer and foundation options to choose from, but staff are experts in flattering the face. The eco-friendly Back to MAC recycling program invites shoppers to trade six used MAC makeup containers for a new lipstick, lip gloss or eyeshadow.
