A Toronto original, MAC was conceived in 1985 as a cosmetics line for professional makeup artists. Twenty-four years later, the little black discs of Blot Powder ($25) and toonie-size pots of eyeshadow ($17) can be found in dressing rooms around the world. The Queen Street store is full of soft, natural colour options, amplified by splashes of flamboyant body paint, glitter and pigment. There are more than 200 concealer and foundation colour options to choose from, but the staff are experts at flattering the face. The eco-friendly Back to MAC recycling program invites shoppers to trade used MAC makeup containers for a new lipstick, lip gloss or eyeshadow.
