Decorated with lavish chandeliers, Pink Poppie is not afraid of excess. Certainly its elegant dim sum of jewellery and whatnots is addictive. Signs encourage you to not only gaze but handle the merchandise or even try something on (display cases here are left unlocked). Repeated exposure to the feminine, ornate jewellery may result in the purchase of a cameo, hung with crystals and framed with rhinestones ($21–$24), or a brooch made of taffeta tulips or pansies ($30). Glamour gals will also be tempted by a rococo clutch bag, encrusted with rosettes and peacock feathers ($110) or trapeze earrings, swirling with filagree ($48). For a change of pace, there are modern pieces in hammered copper, sterling silver and gold. But the most habit-forming temptation here is soap, made twice a week by owner Scott Magee, in translucent Jell-O shades. Got you hooked?
