Named after the French peak, the Bloor Street outpost is so polished and civilized that you expect suited staff to speak in haughty Euro accents. (They don’t.) Floors are chilly marble, gilt-framed oil paintings line walls, and curvaceous display cases (made of black bird’s-eye maple) are as well lacquered as a Mercedes. Established in 1906 Hamburg, ink superpower Montblanc deals first and foremost in prestigious, handcrafted writing instruments—all destined for burnished antique bureaus. Prices (up to $225,000) are as lofty as the titular Alp. The brand’s hallmark is the 1924 Meisterstück, which has won its way into Manhattan’s Guggenheim. But Montblanc produces much more than caps, barrels and gold nibs. Swiss-made watches (with steel and solid bracelets), key rings, cufflinks, tie bars, titanium eyewear and leather goods are all timelessly elegant. Grabbing the limelight this fall is an extensive new line of hand-crafted jewellery, featuring glittering gems in 18-karat white gold. The La Bohème collection features purses and agendas (grained calfskin in shades of white, camel, burnt orange, rose, violet and blue). Other offerings include a black and brown platinum plate belt (reversible to suit the outfit, $265–$500) and the Multifunction 44 mm titanium watch, complete with LCD readout ($4,025).
Hours:
