Kumari’s

This Ali Baba’s cave of colour and sparkle is gift central, stocking pashminas (in more than 230 shades) to outfit hundreds of chilly shoulders; dressing gowns to please the most delicate post-shower skin; and pashmina ($95) or cashmere ($225) blankets for tiny pashas in the making. Owner Kumari Colson, a former buyer for Ralph Lauren, opened the store after the gifts she brought back from a trip to Nepal started a fashion frenzy among her friends. Today, her Yorkville pied-à-terre attracts the same attention from the stars staying at the Four Seasons. Pieces hail from around the globe (Nepal, Vietnam, China, India and Italy, to name a few) and include such items as chic chunky turquoise necklaces and hand-embroidered silk skirts (both $95–$595).
