Once a dowdy movie theatre, the York has been reborn as a swanky party venue, courtesy of cool design firm II by IV. Gone are the grungy seats and popcorn crumbs; the sophisticated new aesthetic consists of a cool white and grey colour scheme with red accents. On the ground floor, the lobby accommodates up to 400 schmoozers who can lounge on flat couches and quaff cocktails at the granite bar. Downstairs, a smaller party space, the Iris Room (seats 200), is decorated with a wood floor and a blue and white teardrop chandelier. There’s an even bigger chandelier to swing from in the 6,000-square-foot Epic Room—formerly the cinema—which holds up to 450 people for dinner. The approved caterers—three of which are kosher—include North 44°, Marigolds and Onions and Daniel et Daniel.
How much:
$1,500–$4,500, depending on room and day.
Catering:
choose from 16 approved caterers.
