The Heliconian Club
Part of rural Toronto when it was built in 1875, the Heliconian stands out between contemporary galleries in today’s Yorkville. Original elements of the Carpenter’s Gothic board and batten church have been restored to their former glory: a Victorian rose window above the entrance presides over a majestic oak and brick wood-burning fireplace; the vaulted ceiling with wooden rafters provides stellar acoustics, making the club popular for musical and dramatic presentations. There’s seating for up to 120. An adjacent suite has a modest finishing kitchen, a bar, and French doors that lead to an intimate patio.
