A vision of high Victorian elegance, William Thomas’s 1850 masterpiece was one of the first buildings to excite the adoration of local preservationists—and it’s not hard to see why. Corinthian pillars and a cupola grace the exterior. Inside, the Great Hall is a splendid, almost rococo confection of peach-coloured walls and ivory woodwork; its high, vaulted ceiling is enlivened by gilt filigree and crystal chandeliers. A series of smaller rooms surround the third-floor hall, including three red carpeted lounges, perfect for chilling out; the historic East Room (which seats 60 theatre style and is often used as a catering space); and the intimate VIP Room, which seats 12 and is often used as a bridal suite.

How much:
Great Hall $900–$2,700; East Room $400–$600; VIP Room $200–$300; entire facility $1,200–$3,000.
Catering:
supply your own.
