The Captain Matthew Flinders (named after the first explorer to circumnavigate Australia) is the largest of Mariposa’s seven-vessel fleet, with room for a 600-guest cocktail reception on three decks (300 buffet style, 265 for dinner and dancing). It boasts a lavish ballroom, wood finishes and classic French doors, not to mention a view of the Toronto harbour and islands. The baby of the family is the cozy 20- to 40-guest Rosemary, with cushy couches and loveseats. For mid-size functions, there’s the Northern Spirit (with room for 300 to 400 for a buffet, 580 for a reception) and the Mariposa Belle (accommodating a reception of about 160). The boats’ decor can be transformed for any theme or occasion. For winter parties, staff string lights and decorate with holly and cedar boughs. Anchors are dropped January through March; two winterized ships begin cruising in April.
How much:
from $1,500 for the Rosemary M–W afternoons to $8,000 for the Flinders Th–Sa evenings
Catering:
in-house; $19.95–$75 per person
