Reopened in September 2001 following a massive restoration, the 82-year-old Liberty Grand bears little resemblance to its formerly musty self. The three beaux arts–style ballrooms are positively gleaming, notable for their crystal chandeliers, soaring 27-foot ceilings, iron-laced balconies and arched windows. The Governor’s Room is a good choice for grand affairs (2,500 for cocktails, 1,100 seated); the Centennial and Renaissance rooms are more suited to smaller crowds (each accommodates 700 for cocktails, 350 seated). The upper mezzanine features private boardrooms that can be used as bridal suites, green rooms or hospitality rooms. Decor is decadent: mahogany ballroom chairs upholstered in luxurious fabrics and large Manhattan-style square tables set with Royal Doulton china and silverware. The Artifacts Room holds up to 2,200 for cocktails or 700 for dinner, and boasts extensive audio-visual equipment. Kosher and vegetarian meals are available.
