“If you don’t want decadent, don’t call me,” says owner Douglas Hotte. “It’s got to be gorgeous.” Hotte attracts clients who enjoy flowers the same way they do fine wine or food—epicureans who don’t believe in half-measures. For some, that means rhythm through repetition: 20 vases of identically coloured peonies, for example, scattered throughout a home. Others favour the “French hotel look”: lush, tumbling, vibrant. Hotte does the occasional wedding, but most of his business comes from clients who value his sumptuous style. It’s not a drop-in shop, as most business is done by telephone or on-line; order a small hostess arrangement (from $50) or a large standard (from $250), plus delivery (starting at $12). Clients do stop by, says Hotte—but it’s usually with a bottle of wine.
