Lisa Shamai Cuisinière

  • 416-406-1101
The vegetarian menus must be good: other caterers quietly send their meat-averse clients to Lisa Shamai’s east-end kitchen, which welcomes the challenge. Known generally for fresh, global cuisine, Shamai’s vegan and vegetarian menus have also become a specialty in recent years. At one vegan wedding, guests dined on Thai red curry with tempeh, Moroccan stew, and Vietnamese-grilled tofu with glass noodles. Coconut-chocolate squares and soy ice cream with fresh summer fruit round out the dairy-free menu. Bite-size wild mushroom pancakes with mushroom mustard, and chicken brined in maple vinegar and served with local wild plums, reflect an interest in Canadian wild foods. Untraditional in other ways, too, Shamai prefers such off-the-beaten-track venues as Todd Morden Mills and the Cecil Street Community Centre (an unlikely spot to find a glamorous domed ceiling and lovely private courtyard).
How much:
