Nix the notion that a picnic can’t be glamorous: at an outdoor après-ski luncheon, 30 guests sipped kumquat-spiked mulled wine around a table garnished with evergreens and icicles, and sat on ice sculpture chairs covered in woolly blankets and cushions; venison, brandy and fig stew cooked over an open fire nearby. Dessert comprised individual tin pails of butterscotch and chocolate bread pudding. Such is the attention to detail and creativity that has earned Shaw a first-rate reputation among the cocktail party set. Every event is custom, but a holiday party might feature poached quail eggs with hollandaise and caviar, truffle quiche, bite-size lobster pot pie, and vanilla-poached crabapples dipped in chocolate.
