Small is beautiful for Suchada Promsiri, owner and sole employee of Osogood Pastry. Totally self-taught, Promsiri opened her teensy shop on College West in 2005. Locals have come to love such treats as pumpkin squares on butter chocolate crust, key lime tartlets with blueberry compote, macaroons, apple dumplings, lollipop Smarties cookies (on Popsicle sticks for the tots), and savoury sugar-free biscuits in rosemary, cheddar or jalapeño. Promsiri champions purity, freshness and healthy ingredients; everything is made by hand, from scratch, using only butter, with minimal sugar. Two days notice is required for party orders of up to three dozen people. Full-size cakes and tarts are custom made. Try chocolate layered with sour cream and honey icing, or cheesecakes made with fresh seasonal fruit.
When:
Tu–F 10–7, Sa 10–6.
How much:
Bars, tartlets and cookies $1.50–$3.75 each; nine- or twelve-inch tarts from $18; nine-inch cakes from $28.
